Hillsboro Opens FAC Play With Win at WCH

What a night for storylines for the Hillsboro Indians game with the Washington Blue Lions.

First of all, the game was originally scheduled to be played at Hillsboro, but because of scoreboard issues, the game was switched to Washington CH. Thus, the Indians will have their home opening game delayed for a second time.

Also, the game marked the return of former Blue Lions head coach Shannon Bartruff. He has returned to head the program that went winless in 2019-2020.

Finally, the game was the FAC opener for both teams.

As for game information, Hillsboro seized control in the first quarter and never was truly threatened. The Indians, on the strength of a 8-1 run, led at the end of the period 17-8.

Then, with airtight defense leading the way, Hillsboro went on another run of 11-0 during the second stanza to grab a 38-21 advantage at the halftime break.

After the intermission, both teams struggled offensively until Ryan Scott hit a three pointer and a free throw (making it a unique four point play) to highlight third quarter action. By that time, the visiting Indians had a commanding 19 point lead.

In the final period, despite going scoreless for over three minutes, HHS outscored WCH 16-8 to make the final count read 67-40.

The Indians were lead by the steady play of Jakwon Clark and his 3 three point field goals, defense, and rebounding. For his efforts, Clark was named the WSRW "player of the game."

Also named for notable contributions were Hunter Price (rebounding) and Coltin Hunter for his play off the bench.

Hillsboro moves to (2-0) on the season and (1-0) in the FAC. Their next game will be this Friday when they visit Jackson for their third consecutive road game. Jackson beat McClain 73-61 on Tuesday in their FAC opening game.
