Hillsboro Building Owner Claims Unannounced Inspection Violated His Rights

Talk of a violation of constitutional rights were a topic at Monday nights Hillsboro Council meeting.

Jeff Parks of the Southern Ohio Historical Preservation Investment Group LLC, who owns buildings on West Main Street in Hillsboro, told council that Mayor Drew Hastings and former Building Inspector Tony Wiseman violated their 4th Amendment rights.

Parks says the building inspection was a tool for another purpose, claiming the mayor and his chief engineer showed up unannounced, saying they wanted to go through the building to get to another building- but then inspected his building. Park says that is not legal.

Park believes the mayor wants to buy other buildings downtown and his got in the way of that plan.

Mayor Hastings was absent from the council meeting due to the death of his father Monday morning.

Hillsboro council will meet again next Month on Monday the 9th, 7pm in the municipal courtroom.
