Chillicothe Posts First Win with 32-0 Shutout of Walnut Ridge

The Chillicothe Cavaliers picked up their first win of the season behind a swarming defense that scored 9 points on their own, forced 4 turnovers, and held the visiting Scots to under 100 yards in offense.

Chillicothe got off to a slow start offensively, turning the ball over on their first two possessions on their side of the field.

The Cavs got it going on their third chance driving 75 yards to the WR 1 yard line. The Scots jammed the middle on two consecutive plays to keep the Cavs off the scoreboard.

The defense picked up the offense when they forced a safety on the visitors for a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Chillicothe continued to threaten taking possession in Scot territory on three straight possessions. The Cavs finally broke through with 1:24 left in the half when Ty Scales ran into the end zone from 2 yards out for a 9-0 halftime lead.

Crawford added a 25 yard field goal after a WR fumble and the Cavs led 12-0 after three quarters.

Chillicothe blew the game open in the final quarter. Max Lee bolted up the middle for a 15 yard score and Miles Lewis picked off his second pass and returned it to the house from 35 yards for another score.

Xavier Doss picked up a third Chillicothe interception to set up a final Cavs score when Oscar Morgan ran in fro 4 yards out.

Chillicothe had quarterback Mason Doughty throw 8-15 for 108 yards. The winners rushed for 175 yards with Scales netting 69 and Lee running for 59.

Walnut Ridge has now been shut out three straight weeks. The Scots only had 85 yards net offense and hurt themselves with 4 turnovers and 95 yards in penalties.

Chillicothe did have nine penalties for 80 yards and the two early turnovers.

The Cavs are now 1-2 and host the Waverly Tigers next Friday at Herrnstein Field. You can catch the game on 1490 WBEX.
