Flag Day is Today...with Ceremonies for Proper Disposal of Worn-Out Flags

Today is Flag Day, a federal holiday, because the Continental Congress adopted the first design for the American flag on June 14th, 1777. It's also an occasion to properly dispose of worn-out flags. Kevin Coleman reports.

American Legion Post 62 conducts a ceremony in their back parking lot. Mike Holz, Regular Legion Commander, says the public is welcome at 4:45 every June 14th at 53 West Main Street in Chillicothe.

He says the regimented ceremony involves scripted speech, a dignified burning of unserviceable flags, and a volley by the Ross County Veterans Honor guard to salute the ceremony.

Post 62 accepts unserviceable flags at all times in their sidewalk mailbox.
