CHS Cavs Lose Nail-Biter at Saint Charles

Despite starting the game on a 5-0 run and the third quarter on an 8-0 run, the #7 D-1 state ranked Chillicothe Cavaliers fell to the Cardinals of Columbus Saint Charles 54-51, Monday night.

Saint Charles overcame the early deficit to take a 17-16 lead after the first quarter and were up 28-26 at halftime. Chillicothe used a 12-6 third period for a 38-34 advantage after three quarters. Both teams traded fourth quarter leads before Chillicothe took as much as a four point lead late in the game, only to see Saint Charles battle back to take a 52-51 lead. The Cavs had a potential go-ahead possession, but could not cash-in, then committed a foul after the missed shot. The Cardinals sank two free throws to make it 54-51 and Chillicothe was unable to connect on the final shot of the game, which could have sent it to OT, losing by that score for only their second loss of the season.

Despite shooting a terrible 1/11 from the three-point arc in the first half, the Cavs shot 21/43 from the field for the game at 48%- including 4/16 from the arc. They were also 5/6 from the foul line.

(9-5) Saint Charles was 22/42 from the field for 52%- including 4/9 from behind the arc and were 5/7 from the charity stripe.

Both teams committed 9 turnovers and Saint Charles won the rebounding battle 22-18.

Chillicothe had three players in double figures, led by Jayvon Maughmer's 15 points, 10 each from Tre Beard and Vinny Roper, while Cavs' leading scorer Brandon Noel was held to 8 points.

Saint Charles had three players in double figures, led by Jared Fry's 14, followed by Victor Searles and Derrick James who each had 12 points.

Chillicothe falls to (12-2) overall, and will next travel to Washington CH in FAC play this Friday, before returning home in non league play Saturday vs Upper Arlington on "Cavaliers Hall of Fame Night".
