Festival of Bells Future in Doubt

The future of the Festival of the Bells is now uncertain. That's because the annual festival in downtown Hillsboro is now without a venue for its 2018 edition.

That development came about during a recent meeting of Hillsboro City Council, where the Committee behind the annual festival was denied a permit for the festival to take place in the city's downtown as in years past. Safety and traffic issues were behind that decision and it's believed that moving the festival will help to ease traffic on Main Street.

City administration had proposed to move the festival to High Street, which is one block north of its usual location, however, the festival's committee has chosen to decline that proposal.

Festival of the Bells Committee President, Rick Williams, tells the Hillsboro Times Gazette, that it is possible the festival may not happen at all, though no decision has been made.
