NWS Considers Changes To Flood Alerts

The National Weather Service is proposing changes to a number of its flood advisories, watches and warnings.

A plan by the National Weather Service would whittle the number of possible watches, warnings and advisories down from more than a dozen, to just four. The alerts and their titles would no longer specify the various types of flooding, except flash flooding, considered the most deadly.

What would remain would be four types: flood advisory, flood watch, flood warning and flash flood warning.

Current plans call for the changes to be put into place in about two years.
