Jackson Clinches Share of FAC Football Title at Hillsboro

Observations from Hillsboro's game with Jackson Friday night: The Ironmen are for real.....and, are real good. Jackson came to Hillsboro and won their ninth straight game by the final score of 42-3.

.

All the characteristics of a top team were on display from the opening kickoff. The Ironmen, using the run and the pass with equal efficiency, scored on a 5 yard run by Brice Graham. Then, after a quick stop of the Indians, Jackson scored their second touchdown on a 19 yard pass to Jake Winters.

.

Before the half ended, Hillsboro had not moved the ball much at all and Jackson had scored again on a 21 yard scamper by senior quarterback Jared Icenhower.

.

Having the first possession of the third quarter, the Indians proceed to methodically march down the field and take 6 minutes off the clock. However, before HHS could take advantage of the drive, they fumbled and turned the ball over to the Ironmen. It didn't take long for the FAC leaders to take advantage of the miscue when Jayden Spires dodged his way to pay-dirt and increased the lead to 28-0. From that point, Jackson was content to run the ball and control the clock.

.

In the fourth quarter the Indians finally got on the scoreboard when Brock Haines nailed a 31 yard field goal with a little over three minutes remaining. Coach Jack O'Rourke, when speaking of his seniors, said that they always "gave everything they had."

.

There is one game left for the Indians --- next week's Rotary Bowl at Greenfield McClain. With the defeat HHS is now (3-6) overall and (0-4) in FAC play. McClain fell to Washington CH Friday, 51-7.
