Chillicothe Clinches Third Straight FAC Championship With Win Over Jackson

The Jackson Ironmen should be happy to be done with the Cavaliers this year. Jackson is now 18-3 this year with two of their losses to Chillicothe, both by double figures.

This time around the Cavs jumped to an early lead and cruised to their ninth straight FAC win to clinch the FAC crown. Chillicothe is now 9-0 in conference play with a make up game Friday at McClain. Jackson finished conference play at 8-2.

It was senior night and the senior laden Cavaliers went out with flying colors as the five senior starters scored 63 of the Cavs 68 points. The seniors also go out with having won three FAC championships in the three years of the conference’s existence.

The Cavaliers shot it well hitting 28 of 52 shots for 53%. Chillicothe was 7 of 17 from the three point line and 5 of 8 from the foul line.

Brandon Noel hit for 20 while Jayvon Maughmer led everyone with 24 points and moved to within 19 points of reaching 1000 career points. Maughmer would join teammate Noel in the 1000 point club. Seniors Tre Beard and Vincent Roper added nine and eight points respectively for the Cavs.

Jackson’s outstanding point guard Caleb Wallis also joined the career 1000 point club with a team leading 22 points. Wallis scored 15 of Jackson’s 21 first half points to keep the Ironmen close.

Jackson hit 19 of 42 shots for 45% and sophomore Drew Bragg added 14 points to back up Wallis.

Chillicothe used their height advantage to lead in rebounds 27-18. The Cavs had nine offensive rebounds to help them get off 10 more shots than Jackson.

The Cavaliers( 17-4) (9-0) finish the regular season on Friday at McClain and win would produce another FAC gold basketball for Chillicothe. The Cavs don’t play a tournament game until February 28 when they host either Marysville or Westerville North.
