Highland County Emergency Operations Center Works to Provide COVID 19 Facts

Emergency management officials at the local, state and federal level are finding it to be almost a full-time job getting "factual" information to the public, as social media runs rampant with incorrect information during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Branden Jackman, Public Information Officer for the Highland County Emergency Operations Center, says Highland County residents should call their primary care physician if they are showing symptoms of the COVID-19.

Jackman says a number of Highland County residents got caught up in a "round-about" in an effort to get information on what to do for COVID-19 testing. He says many of those people called the state hotline number about testing, who then were forwarded to the local operation center. Jackman says the state hotline is not the best call you should make about getting a "local test", because it is only intended to be a general COVID-19 information resource.
