Jackson Steams Past Hillsboro

For the fourth time in five weeks the Hillsboro Indians took to the road again for more 2020 action. However, this time the assignment was more daunting- taking on undefeated and league-leading Jackson, falling 48-7.

In the previous two weeks the Indians had been outscored (by Chillicothe and Washington C H) 88-28 ... so, it has been quite a stretch for a relatively inexperienced squad. Jackson's Ironmen, from the outset, proved that they were not going to take their opponent for granted and (in workmanlike fashion) pulled away to a convincing win.

Two touchdowns in the first quarter set the tone for the Ironmen. However, it was a 28-0 advantage in the second period that put the game out of reach.

QB Evan Spires, with 3 first half touchdown passes, lead the way for Jackson. Two of those scoring strikes (of 15 and 22 yards) went to Tristan Prater.

Late in the second period Prater made his mark on the defensive side of the ball with an 65 yard interception return for another score. When halftime arrived the numbers were startling: 42-0 in favor of Jackson, 11 first downs to 1, and 301 total yards to 25.

The Indians lone tally came in the third period when Christopher Stout hit Canaan Griffith with perfect 38 yard touchdown pass to make the it 42-7.

The Ironmen tacked on one more trip to pay-dirt to end the scoring.

Hillsboro will now get ready to face McClain (also winless) in the annual Highland County rivalry game (at Richards Memorial Field) next Friday. WSRW 101.5FM/1590AM and iHeart Radio airtime will be 6:40pm.
