Highland County Commissioner Discusses Local Economy In Radio Interview

The Highland County Commissioners are echoing some of the same things as other area counties on how their sales tax income fared better in 2020 than many thought it would, considering being in a pandemic.

Highland County Commissioner Jeff Duncan believes the pandemic kept many residents closer to home for their shopping, which brought higher than anticipated sales tax revenues, although not as high as a typical year.

Commissioner Duncan also says Highland County is looking to increase their efforts on economic development this year with a possible hire of a person to run that department.

Duncan says the county currently relies on one of their commissioners office clerks to handle some of the economic development activities, which makes it difficult for the clerk due to an already overwhelming flow of paperwork just from the commissioners office.
