If you need to get a COVID-19 test, you will soon be able to order an at-home testing kit from your smartphone. DoorDash announced a new partnership with Vault Health and Everlywell that will allow people to order one of two coronavirus testing kits and get them delivered right to their door.
The Everlywell testing kit costs $109 and requires you to use a nasal swab to take a sample to be sent back to a lab for testing. The Vault Health kit costs $119 and comes with the option to have a health worker guide you through taking a saliva sample over Zoom. The results should arrive within 24 hours.
The testing kits will be available for same-day delivery through the DoorDash app for 12 cities, including Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, and Phoenix. People in other cities, including Las Vegas, Houston, and San Diego, will be able to order the tests from Vault Health's website and have a DoorDash driver drop off the test later that day.
DoorDash plans to expand the program to more cities in the coming months.
"As many as 30 percent of people skip doctor's appointments because they don't have a reliable way of getting there," said Dr. Marisa Cruz, Head of Clinical Affairs at Everlywell and former Senior Medical Advisor for Digital Health at the FDA. "The fact that you can now get a kit delivered to your door in hours, quickly collect a sample and drop your kit in the mail, and then receive an accurate COVID-19 diagnosis and speak to a physician about next steps in as little as 24 hours later is a significant step forward for public health".
