AAA, Ohio Highway Patrol on This Weekend's Holiday Travel

AAA reports more than 47-million Americans are expected to travel this weekend. That includes more than 2,000,000 Ohioans, up nearly four percent over last year.

The vast majority of those taking a trip in the Buckeye State are expected to drive. The travel club suggests leaving early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid traffic headaches.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is advising motorists who have had too much to drink to stay off the roadways this holiday weekend. Troopers will be out in force and cracking down on impaired drivers.

The zero-tolerance policy is part of two national campaigns, Operation CARE and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. Troopers recorded 538 OVI arrests during the 4th of July reporting weekend in 2021.

The patrol is encouraging folks to plan ahead and designate a sober driver.
