Actor Charley Scailes, best known for roles in The Wire and The Sopranos, has died at the age of 84, according to an obituary shared on the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home & Crematory website.
Scailes died after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease at his Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, nursing facility, his daughter, Anne Marie, confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter. The actor appeared in 12 episodes of The Wire, playing the role of Horseface, during the show's second season in 2003.
“As with all the other characters I’ve been blessed to portray, Horseface lives inside of me,” Scailes said during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in 2019. “I invite him out to play as needed.”
Scailes later appeared on the Sopranos for the episode 'The Test Dream' during its fifth season as Coach Molinaro, a character who showed up in Tony Soprano's dream berating the main character for taking "the easy way out" by becoming a mob boss and squandering his potential. The actor was also credited for roles on the television shows Cold Case, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Homicide: Life on the Street, as well as the films Jersey Girl, Liberty Heights, Nicky's Game and Diary of a City Priest.
